Welcome

Student Senate is proud to represent the student body of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the university, local, state, and federal levels, and allocate student segregated fees to improve student life every year. Commissions of the Student Senate work tirelessly to identify and improve university policies, and present legislation to the general Senate.

What is Student Senate?

Sponsored by the Dean of Students Office, Student Senate represents the student body at the university at the local, state and federal levels. This is not your average student activity or opportunity, so if you are passionate about student affairs, academics and the social/political climate of your campus, consider a run for Student Senate.

The ways that Student Senate's processes and decisions impact student life are almost too numerous to count, but here are a few of the major areas of policy, program and service that are impacted by Student Senate membership and legislation:

Endorsed by the Dean of Students Office, the Student Senate is more than an extracurricular activity—it’s a platform for change. We invite students who are deeply committed to enhancing the academic, social, and political fabric of our campus to step forward. If you're driven to influence student policies, advocate for your peers, and leave a lasting legacy at UW-Eau Claire, consider joining the ranks of the Student Senate.

  • Mission

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate is dedicated to voicing the collective interests of our students to the University, local community, and beyond. Our mission is to ensure accessible resources, foster diverse growth opportunities, and cultivate a vibrant student life experience.

We actively shape policy alongside the University and UW System, engage with the Eau Claire City Council, and advocate for our students' needs with state and federal governments. The Senate is responsible for the allocation of approximately $6 million in segregated fees towards essential services and activities such as legal aid, athletics, and health services, while also managing significant budgets for technology, tuition differentials, and sustainability through various commissions.

Student Senate has the annual responsibility of allocating over $4 million in segregated fees to organized activities, Blugold Athletics and Student Health Services and numerous other student programs and services. Student Senate also oversees the $1.2 million Information Technology budget and the $11 million Blugold Commitment Differential Tuition budget. The Information and Technology budget funds innovative technology practices, general access labs, wireless Internet and much more. Blugold Commitment funds access to bottleneck courses, efforts to improve our four-year graduation rate, and provides access to high impact practices including immersion experiences, student/faculty collaborative research, internships, and capstones.

In addition to financial stewardship, we organize signature events like HOUSE Day and Pack it Up, Pass it On, champion the formation of new student organizations, and facilitate student appointments to university committees. Our commitment to service is unwavering, and we are always open to suggestions that enhance our service to the student body.
